Under supervision of a teacher/administrator, assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting with pupils who have severely impaired conditions as determined by an individualized education program (IEP). The primary objective of such assistance is to affect learning for mastery by implementing both developmental and remedial methods in basic skill areas and content areas. The employee assists certificated staff by: implementing lesson plans (activities which include reviewing and correcting the work of pupils), participating in parent conferences, proctoring examinations, keeping relevant records, operating instructional equipment in appropriate instructional settings, as well as performing related duties as required. Some positions may require conversational and written skills in a specific language(s) other than English related to the needs of the assignment. An ability to translate and adapt materials to and from English into that language(s) may also be required. Some positions may require that the employee furnish a certificate of clearance from the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to meet District insurable requirements.

As the Special Education Paraeducator, you will:
Willingness to work with, and basic background knowledge of, interventions for working with students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs
Ability to follow appropriate safety precaution guidelines and procedures and make judgment calls during a crisis, across all school settings and activities.Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, firmness, caring, courtesy, and consistency. Use and operation of a word processor, iPad, computer, and standard office equipment, ability to collect data in a systematic manner
High School Diploma/equivalent
An Associate of Arts Degree or higher, OR 48 college units, OR High School Diploma/equivalent and passing of CBEST examination. A letters of interest One year of successful experience working with students who have significant social-emotional and/or behavioral needs, i.e. direct student care or as an instructional aide working in a public school, nonpublic school or nonpublic agency setting.
SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $31.52 - $36.87/hourly commensurate with experience in a similar position.
