Job summary

Genesee Intermediate School District is seeking a Para-Educator to assist certificated staff, therapists, and other team members in instructional and health-related activities for students with disabilities. The role may be assigned to one classroom, home visits, or as a one-on-one aide based on student needs.

Position offers a 185-day calendar with 7-hour days, paid time off, employer-sponsored health/dental/vision, retirement plan, and opportunities for professional development and mentorship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required; coursework in child development or related fields preferred
• Experience working with children/adults with special needs is preferred
• Physical ability to lift/move students and perform essential duties
• Must meet Michigan DHS Child Abuse and Neglect Registry clearance

Responsibilities

• Assist certificated staff, licensed therapists, and other staff in instructional, health-related, recreational, and prevocational activities
• May be assigned to a single classroom, home visits, or one-on-one support based on student needs
• Support implementation of instructional plans and behavior management strategies as directed by supervisors

Education

Position Summary

The Para-Educator is responsible for assisting certificated staff, licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other ancillary staff in the support of instructional, health-related, recreational, and prevocational/job training activities in the assigned area of responsibility for students with disabilities. The Para-Educator may be assigned to one classroom, to assist with home visits, or as a one-on-one assistant to a student or to a variety of assignments depending on the needs of the students. Para-Educators can perform one or more of these functions as assigned by a supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college coursework in child development, education, psychology, or special education preferred
• Experience working with children/adults with special needs preferred
• Physical ability to lift/move students and perform essential duties
• Must meet Michigan DHS Child Abuse and Neglect Registry clearance

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range:

• High School Diploma/GED: $17.71 - $24.13 per hour
• High School Diploma/GED and 30+ College Credits: $18.54 - $25.32 per hour

Work Schedule: 185 days / 7 hours daily

Paid Time Off:

• Sick and Personal Business paid time, up to 13 days
• Bereavement Leave
