Job summary

WestRock Company in West Point, VA seeks a Production Supervisor for the Paper and Shipping departments. You will lead daily operations of 3 paper machines, recycle fiber, and shipping to meet safety, quality, and production goals. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills are essential.

Ideal candidates have a engineering-related degree or substantial experience, superior communication, and the ability to oversee rotating 8-hour shifts while maintaining housekeeping and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field with 3+ years relevant experience or High School diploma/GED and 10+ years related experience.
• Proficiency with Outlook, Acrobat Reader, Word and Excel; ability to learn new apps.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities to prevent major breakdowns.
• Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to select and use PPE per hazards and requirements.
• Leadership and motivational skills.
• Experience in a unionized location and supervisory roles preferred.
• Familiarity with IT basics and plant data systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline leadership of daily operation for 3 containerboard paper machines, recycle fiber plant, and shipping/logistics.
• Promote safety engagement and maintain safe work practices to eliminate incidents.
• Ensure product quality and protect customer expectations through effective supervision of crews.
• Manage crews and equipment to maximize reliability and machine efficiency; troubleshoot issues.
• Lead rotating shift operational crews; coach and train personnel for proficiency.
• Support safety, environmental and quality incident investigations.
• Communicate production information to appropriate personnel via multiple channels.
• Direct shift maintenance resources and plan machine outages.
• Maintain housekeeping in all areas.
