Job summary

Part of the Solution (POTS) in the Bronx seeks a Food Pantry Assistant to ensure dignified service for clients, maintain pantry cleanliness, and supervise volunteers in daily operations.

Reporting to the Associate Director, you will interview clients for changes in living conditions, manage pantry inventory in Salesforce, and support the pantry's mission to provide nutrition and dignity to low-income families.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service with 1-3 years of experience.
  • Ability to manage a crowd and work with diverse clients.
  • Conversational to fluent in Spanish.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • General facility with computers.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of POTS.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure clients seeking emergency food receive the service in a dignified and efficient manner.
  • Ensure all data is entered into Salesforce correctly and efficiently and that household data is kept up to date.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the pantry, keep the pantry stocked and manage Inventory.
  • Provides constant supervision to volunteers to ensure the work flow is operating correctly

Job description

The mission of POTS is to be a loving community in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to its door. Helping low-income families and individuals since 1982, Part of the Solution (POTS) has grown to become a leading provider of emergency food, legal representation and social services in the Bronx. POTS’ unique “one-stop shop” model of interrelated programming has been designed to carry out its vision of helping low-income individuals and families move from crisis to stability and ultimately self-sufficiency. Last year, POTS’ work has touched the lives of more than 30,000 people, including 8,000 children. POTS’ Food Pantry, operating since 1999, has provided hundreds of thousands of low-income Bronx residents millions of nutritionally-complete meals following a client choice model.

About the position

Reporting to the Associate Director Food & Dignity Services, the Food Pantry Associate is a crucial component to ensure proper function of the Food Pantry. This includes: Creating an environment in which clients feel dignity and respect, maintaining the cleanliness and inventory in the Pantry, and assisting in the supervision of volunteers in the Pantry program. Briefly interviewing all clients for any changes in their living conditions before being serviced, the Food Pantry Assistant must perform all his/her duties with the goal of insuring POTS’s Core Values (Community, Respect, Hospitality, Empowerment, and Justice) are upheld in the delivery of services.
