Job summary

Long Island Cares, Inc. is seeking a part-time Program Associate to support the Bethpage Food Pantry with daily operations. The role runs 30 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with possible travel or occasional extended hours as needed to serve neighbors.

Responsibilities include needs assessments, inventory management, reporting, clerical duties, and community outreach. A valid NY driver's license and related experience are preferred.

  • Maintain current community resource and referral lists for neighbors utilizing the pantry.
  • Perform clerical duties: correspondence, scheduling, records, data entry, and filing.
  • Assist with monthly reports on pantry activities and progress.
  • Support community outreach and mobile program initiatives, including Veterans Project and Mobile Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Job Description

The Program Associate supports the Program Coordinator with the daily operations of the Bethpage Food Pantry. This is a part-time position scheduled for 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. With advance notice, occasional travel and early evening or weekend availability may be required to help meet the needs of our neighbors.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct needs assessments with neighbors related to food assistance, emergency relief, and other circumstances. Accurately record and track neighbor visits and pantry usage.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with ordering food and supplies from the Long Island Cares warehouse and maintaining pantry inventory.
  • Maintain current community resource and referral lists for neighbors utilizing the food pantry.
  • Perform various clerical duties, including correspondence, scheduling, maintaining program records, updating program materials, data entry, and filing.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with preparing monthly reports on the food pantry’s activities and progress.
  • Assist with other community outreach and mobile program initiatives, including, but not limited to, the Veterans Project (Military Appreciation Tuesdays) and Mobile Programs.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Vice President for Network Relations and the Director of Food Pantries & Programs.

Education & Experience
  • Associate degree and/or relevant experience in office operations, nonprofit organizations, human services, or social service programs.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social service programs preferred.
  • Valid and clean New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
