Job summary

William & Mary is seeking a Painter/Sheetrock Trades Worker to maintain and repair interior and exterior painted surfaces, drywall, plaster, and furniture finishes across campus. Responsibilities include carpentry touch-ups, finishing work, and matching paints and stains.

The role requires substantial painting experience, basic carpentry and tool handling, and adherence to safety and quality standards. A valid driver’s license is required; overtime and varying shifts may apply.

Responsibilities

  • 80% - Carpentry repairs, painting finishes, drywall and plaster repair across campus buildings.
  • 15% - Work administration including site inspections, material orders, and scheduling.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned in a professional and expeditious manner.

Including taping, mudding and finishing, drywall repair, plaster repair, scraping/sanding, specialty coatings and furniture refinishing, As well as minor carpentry repair and maintenance service across the university campus. The incumbent performs under general supervision and requires extensive knowledge and trade practices in sheetrock/plaster repair and painting.Job Description:Required Qualifications:High School Graduate or equivalent.Significant painting and sheetrock experience with additional experience in basic carpentry maintenance and repair.Considerable knowledge of practices, methods, paints, stains, materials, and related equipment used in the painting/sheetrock trade.Demonstrated ability to perform painting and finishing work in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, walls, wood (finished and unfinished), metals, ceilings, doors, windows, fixtures, and furniture.Demonstrated ability to interpret paint-related specifications and conduct research using vendor submittals to obtain materials needed to complete tasks.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and determine means and methods of task accomplishment with general supervisory guidance.Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and chemicals used to clean or strip surfaces and maintain painting equipment and tools.Ability to accomplish work while maintaining a clean and organized workspace and following all safety guidelines.Self-motivated, courteous, and professional in interactions with customers and co-workers.Valid Driver’s License.Preferred Qualifications:Significant experience working with drywall, plaster, and paint finishes.Basic computer skills.Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.Conditions of Employment:Subject to overtime and schedule changes and may be required to work weekends, holidays, special events, and varying shifts.Required to participate in the Facilities Management on-call program.Designated as an essential employee and required to report to work when the University is officially closed;
