Van-Am Tool & Engineering is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Painter/Powder Coat Technician to join our production team in delivering high-quality finishes to steel platforms, products, and equipment. This full-time position offers a consistent 4-day work week, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM-giving you long weekends every week.
In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for surface preparation, paint application using conventional spray systems, and equipment maintenance while adhering to strict safety and quality standards. You will paint raw steel parts, operate blasting and painting equipment, document inspections, and help maintain a clean, organized work area. You'll also move materials with overhead cranes or forklifts and occasionally assist with general labor tasks. Success in this position requires the ability to apply paints to spec using thickness gauges and identify and repair any coating defects.
We're looking for candidates with at least a high school diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of experience in wet painting and surface prep. You should be comfortable using blasting equipment, mixing two-part epoxies and polyurethanes, and working with hand and power tools. You must also pass respiratory evaluations, fit tests, and pulmonary function testing to meet PPE requirements.
Preferred candidates will bring 3–5 years of paint application experience, chemical management skills, and the ability to read blueprints and operate forklifts.
This position involves physically demanding work, including standing for 8–10 hours, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in environments with noise, solvents, and required PPE.
