Job summary

The Oshkosh Delivery Paint team is seeking a Paint Tech III to wipe, sand, inspect, and prepare parts for coating, while plugging and masking parts and operating the overhead hoist to hang parts. The role includes managing water and shot removal to ensure proper paint adhesion and quality.

You will lead, coach, and train paint technicians, driving safety, 5S standards, and continuous improvement in pre-treatment, coating, and quality across models.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in automotive manufacturing.
  • 2-3 years in paint processing.
  • Strong math, reading, and computer skills.
  • Ability to lead and guide paint technicians.

Summary

The Paint Tech III is responsible for wiping, sanding, and inspecting all parts to be painted, as well as plugging and masking all parts. Other required tasks include blowing water, shot blow of area, and operation of overhead hoist to hang parts. The Paint Tech III will lead, coach, and train in all areas of the paint process.

Essential Duties

These duties are not meant to be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Wipe, sand, inspect all parts, up to and, including preparation of painted parts for paint repair
  • Plug and mask all parts and blow all excess water and shot from cavities within the parts to allow for proper paint adhesion and needs to be familiar with the operation of the overhead hoist for hanging parts.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in compliance with safety procedures, rules, and proper 5S standards. Demonstrate best practices to follow all safe procedures in assembling and testing of all models/products in assigned function
  • Inspect completed parts for quality, validate components to meet production and quality standards
  • Assist in driving back defects to the point of origin along with facilitation of corrective actions
  • Maintain inventory levels by identifying, labeling, stocking, and recording materials and supplies where applicable
  • Assist in training the knowledge and skills of paint processes and equipment functions
  • Lead team in various functions, as necessary
  • Responsible for PT/ED (Pre-treatment/E-Coat) and WWT (Water Treatment)
  • Other duties, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 4+ years’ experience in automotive manufacturing
  • Previous paint processing experience (at least 2-3 years)
  • Expert level of computer, math, and reading skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment and processes
  • Must be able to follow established methods and procedures and perform work accordingly (incl formulas)
  • Ability to communicate with leadership and fellow team members in both written and verbal forms at a level above standard
  • Must be team oriented and provide guidance and support to Paint technicians
  • Ability to effectively lead, coach, inspire, develop, and motivate Paint team(s)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years’ experience in automotive manufacturing (preferably in a Paint department)
  • Proficient in safe operation of pneumatic tools such as a sander
  • High School Diploma/GED, Apprenticeship program, or certification program in equivalent field
  • Certification (ASE) or equivalent specialized or on-the-job training
  • Previous experience in a leadership or coaching role
