Job summary

La Posada at Park Centre, Inc. is seeking a skilled painter to join the Remodel and Maintenance team in Green Valley, AZ. The position focuses on interior surfaces, applying primers, paints, and finishes with attention to detail and safety.

You will read work orders, estimate material needs, and protect areas from spills and damage while working with brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. Excellent benefits and a steady Mon-Fri schedule support work-life balance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of related painting experience preferred.
• Experience with interior painting and surface prep would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Apply primers or sealers to prepare surfaces.
• Paint, stain, varnish, or enamel across various structures.
• Estimate material quantities based on surface measurements and work orders.
• Read work orders from supervisors to determine requirements.
• Protect surfaces with drop cloths, masking tape, and paper.
• Fill cracks and holes with caulk or putty as needed.
• Set up ladders or scaffolding for elevated work.
• Remove fixtures prior to painting and clean up after completion.
• Ensure finishes adhere properly by washing and preparing surfaces.

Competencies

• Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.
• Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
• Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements and/or work orders.
• Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors or homeowners in order to determine work requirements.
• Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
• Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
• Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders, to work above ground level.
• Remove fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
• Wash and treat surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations, and sand rough spots to ensure that finishes will adhere properly.
• Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies.
• Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting.
• Select tools and finishes for surfaces to be covered, considering durability, ease of handling, methods of application, and customers' wishes.
• Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines.
• Polish final coats to specified finishes.\
• Waterproof buildings, using waterproofers and caulking.
• Cut stencils, and brush and spray lettering and decorations on surfaces.
• Spray or brush hot plastics or pitch onto surfaces.
• Applies paints, stains, surface preparatory materials, and undercoating materials to a variety of surfaces, as appropriate, according to Material Safety Data Sheets within established hazardous materials guidelines.
• Identifies, safely handles, and appropriately disposes of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials.
• Participates in additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor, aligned with qualifications, and can be reasonably expected to be completed with minimal orientation.
