Job description

Summary/Objective:

The Painter/Blaster is responsible for preparing and coating various surfaces to ensure the highest quality and durability. This role involves the application of protective coatings and the operation of blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, and contaminants.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Sandblast and Paint raw steel platforms and various products and equipment.
  • Operate sandblasting equipment to remove paint, rust, dirt, or other debris from surfaces.
  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning and masking areas that are not to be blasted.
  • Inspect surfaces to ensure they are properly prepared for coating or repair.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate protective equipment.
  • Maintain and clean sandblasting equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Move platforms and various products using an overhead crane or forklift.
  • Perform Sandblasting and Wet Painting tasks in a safe and timely manner.
  • On occasion be required to perform general labor and cleaning tasks as directed by your supervisor or lead person.
  • Keep up with routine maintenance procedures and cleaning equipment.
  • Document inspections and paint usage in proper records.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of wet painting, sandblasting and surface preparation techniques in an industrial or construction setting.
  • Knowledge of various surface preparation techniques and coating applications.
  • Familiarity with different types of coatings, paints, and primers.
  • Ability to operate and maintain blasting equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic math for measuring and calculating material quantities.
  • Experience in remodeling, fixture installation, drywall, concrete finishing, stucco, or other related fields is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical dexterity.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient with use of Airless and Conventional paint spraying systems with very minimal to no defects.
  • Knowledge of wet painting and proper paint mixing technique (ex: two-part Epoxy primer and Polyurethane paint).
  • Proficient with use of Steel Grit Blasting equipment and knowledge of basic maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain a clean work area by picking up trash and sweeping the floor and disposing of paints and solvents in appropriate location throughout and at the end of the shift.
  • Ability to perform and recognize a Commercial Grade Blast cleaning on steel.
  • Ability to recognize and properly repair defects in paint finish (ex: runs, holidays and orange peel).
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting functions on Airless and Conventional paint spraying equipment.
  • Ability to follow directions, company operating procedure, safety rules and ISO requirements.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Certification in painting or blasting is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floor continuously for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift metal objects of up to 100 pounds frequently for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to pass a breathing test and full-face respirator fitment test.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat ranging from 110-111 degrees at times.
