Job summary

The San Antonio Zoo is seeking a Painter Assistant in Maintenance to support the painting team across facilities and exhibits in San Antonio. You will prep surfaces, mix and apply paints, and keep work areas organized while collaborating with skilled painters.

The role requires basic painting skills, physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, outdoor work in varying weather, and a valid Texas driver’s license with a clean record. Weekend availability may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in painting or maintenance is a plus.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Willing to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Must have clean driving record and valid license.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and priming.
• Assist painters in applying paint, stains, sealers, and finishes.
• Set up and maintain painting equipment (brushes, rollers, sprayers, ladders).
• Mask and protect areas to prevent paint splatter.
• Follow zoo safety guidelines and complete assigned maintenance duties.
• Work outdoors and indoors near animal exhibits and public areas.
• Handle hazardous materials safely and dispose of waste.
• Attend online training courses by deadlines.
