Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI is seeking a Painter to support the construction of submarines through coating and protective work. You will perform surface prep, apply marine paints, and ensure coating thickness meets standards.

The role requires reading blueprints and procedures, working across shifts, and using a variety of painting tools. Training is provided and growth opportunities exist within a team dedicated to defense technology.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or 2 years related technical experience
• Painting experience in marine/industrial/construction or carpentry-related work
• Able to work all shifts
• Willing to work at heights, in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures
• Must own basic hand tools and be able to obtain respiratory qualifications

Responsibilities

• Preserve hull and components by sealing with paints to prevent corrosion and marine growth
• Interpret blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures
• Surface preparation and painting including solvent washing, sanding and grit blasting
• Measure and document paint thickness to maintain high quality
• Operate shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast gear, brushes, rollers, airless spray and other tools

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life
• Interpreting blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures
• Surface preparation and painting functions, which involves solvent washing, sanding and/or grit blasting
• Measure and document paint thicknesses in order to maintain a high level of quality
• Using various shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast equipment, brush, roller, airless spray and other specialized equipment and air and electric hand held tools

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma/GED OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
• Painting or relevant experience in at least one of the following areas; Marine Industry, Industrial, residential, autobody or relevant trade experience in carpentry/construction, and/or relevant training
• Available to work all shifts
• Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
• Must be able to obtain and maintain respiratory qualifications

Preferred:

• Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
• Mold makers, carpentry and masonry experience
• Experience applying coatings via brush, roller, conventional sprayers & airless sprayers
• Knowledge and use of Graco or equivalent painting tools & equipment
• NACE certification
• Ability to read blueprints and work with basic hand and power tools
• Military experience
