Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking candidates to preserve hulls and components of submarines, employing various techniques to apply protective coatings. Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Preserve the hull and components by sealing submarines with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life.
• Prepare surfaces, mix and apply a variety of paints and finishes, including baked‑on plastics, vinyl, and epoxy paints.
• Measure and document paint thickness to maintain a high level of quality.
• Sandblast, use pneumatic tools, roll, brush, and spray paint as required.
• Perform strenuous tasks for long durations.
• Work in confined spaces and elevated areas.
• Obtain and maintain respiratory qualifications.
• Travel to support off‑site work, if necessary.
• Work all shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or 2+ years of related technical experience.
• 0–5 years of relevant experience.
• Available for all shifts.
• Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program, if applicable.

Preferred

• Knowledge of hazardous material and environmental policies.
• 6 months of painting experience.
• Vocational or Technical school background with a manufacturing or trades focus; apprenticeship, military, shipbuilding, manufacturing, or automotive experience.
