Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT seeks an Entry Level & Semi-Skilled Painter to prepare/submerge hull surfaces, mix and apply paints, and document coating thickness. The role supports offshore and on-site work with potential travel, and requires ability to work in confined spaces and in elevated areas.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED (2+ years related technical experience accepted). EWIB training is offered in collaboration with CT state programs.

Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or have 2+ years related technical experience
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience
  • Must be available for all shifts.
  • Successful completion of EWIB Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training if applicable

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the surface, mix and apply paints and finishes such as baked on plastics, vinyl, and epoxy paints
  • Paint thickness must be measured and documented; maintain high quality
  • Sandblast, use pneumatic tools, roll brush and spray paint
  • Work in confined spaces and elevated areas
  • Travel to support off-site work
  • Work all shifts

Job Responsibilities

Painters preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarines with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life.

  • Prepare the surface, mix and apply a variety of paints and finishes, such as baked on plastics, vinyl, and epoxy paints.
  • Paint thickness must be measured and documented. This requirement makes it essential that the Painter maintain a high level of quality.
  • Candidates must be able to sandblast, use pneumatic tools, roll brush and spray paint.
  • Candidates must be able to perform strenuous task for long durations
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Must be able to obtain respiratory qualifications and maintain them
  • Willing to travel to support off-site work.
  • Must be able to work all shifts.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or have 2+ years related technical experience
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience
  • Must be available for all shifts.
  • Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of hazardous material and environmental policies
  • 6 months of painting experience
  • Vocational or Technical schools with manufacturing or trades focus, Apprentice Programs, Military, Shipbuilding, Manufacturing, and Automotive experience
