Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, RI is seeking skilled candidates for shipfitting and steel fabrication roles. You will be involved in fitting hull components, fabricating and installing foundations, bulkheads, frames and deck packages to support submarine construction.

The position requires reading blueprints, interpreting shipyard procedures, and working in confined spaces as needed. Candidates should have basic tools and related experience; multiple shifts offered at this

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years related technical experience or equivalent training.
• Own basic hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Fitting hull butts, critical inserts and penetrations.
• Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components.
• Developing knowledge of weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations.
• Interpreting construction drawings/blueprints.
• Aligning parts using jacks, clips and wedges per blueprints.
• Tack-welding structural parts as required.
• Using hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade.
• Read and interpret policies, procedures and guidelines for work using drawings, manuals, shipyard procedures.
• Work in restricted/confined spaces.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Fitting Hull butts, critical inserts and penetrations
• Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages
• Developing a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations
• Interpreting construction drawings/blueprints
• Aligning parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips and wedges through use of blueprints and templates
• Tack-welding structural parts as required
• Utilizing hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade
• Ability to read and interpret written policies, procedures and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
• Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces

Required

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
• Shipfitting, metal fabrication, and/or other trades with relevant experience or formal training
• Available to work all shifts
• Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
• Basic mathematical skills
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools

Preferred

• Steel fabrication experience
• Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
• Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
• Military/Navy experience
