Position: Painter | Part-time, Non-Exempt

Summary
Louisburg College is a private, residential, two-year institution with an enrollment of 400-500 students. The Painter performs skilled work in preparing, patching, finishing, and maintaining interior and exterior surfaces, including wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, and brick. This role involves painting college building structures, walls, and woodwork.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follow recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade using brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other equipment as necessary.
- Ensure proper surface preparation using sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrapers, paint removers, chemicals, and related tools.
- Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate fillers, and apply paint, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using suitable tools.
- Mix and match pigments, stains, or varnishes to achieve required colors, tints, and textures following a plan.
- Assemble scaffolding, materials, and equipment as needed for the scope of work.
- Practice preventive maintenance and protect property, tools, and equipment by removing or covering furniture and fixtures, and protecting floors during work.
- Comply with environmental regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal and chemical use.
- Restore worksites to original condition after completing tasks, including removing scaffolding and cleaning paint splatters.
- Document work costs accurately by maintaining daily time sheets and work order records.
- Perform preventive maintenance on painting tools and equipment, including cleaning, oiling, and repairing or replacing damaged tools.
- Contribute to a safe work environment by following safety protocols, using protective equipment, and reporting unsafe activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient in painting skills, including use of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and materials.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Physically capable of prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Experience with chemicals, solvents, and cleaners used in painting, with knowledge of proper handling and disposal.
- Ability to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
- At least five years of successful experience in the painting trade.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of vocational/technical schooling or apprenticeship preferred.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.
WORK HOURS
The schedule for this part-time position will be determined upon selection, in consultation with the Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facilities and Operations.
