Summary
Louisburg College is a private, residential, two-year institution with enrollment ranging from 400-500 students. The Painter performs skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintenance of interior and exterior surfaces, including wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, and brick. Painting is required on College building structures, walls, and woodwork.
Essential Functions
- Follow recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade using brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other equipment as necessary.
- Ensure proper preparation of surfaces using sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrapers, paint removers, chemicals, and related tools.
- Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers, and apply paint, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using appropriate tools.
- Mix and match pigments, stains, or varnishes to achieve the required color, tint, and texture based on a plan for the area to be painted.
- Assemble scaffolding, materials, and equipment as required by the scope of work.
- Practice preventive maintenance and protection of property, tools, and equipment by removing or covering furniture, fixtures, and floors.
- Comply with environmental regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal and chemical use.
- Restore painting worksites to their original condition after completion of work, including cleaning and returning furniture and equipment to proper locations.
- Document the cost of painting work by maintaining accurate daily time sheets and work order records.
- Perform preventive maintenance on painting tools and equipment by conducting spot checks, cleaning, and servicing.
- Contribute to an accident-free work environment by following safety protocols, using protective equipment, and reporting unsafe activities.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- Skilled in painting, including the use of small hand and power tools, measuring devices, and materials.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Physical capability to stand for prolonged periods and perform bending, stooping, and reaching daily.
- Experience with chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to painting, with proper safety procedures.
- Ability to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
- At least five years of successful experience in the painting trade.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of vocational/technical school or apprenticeship in painting preferred.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.
Work Hours
The work schedule will be set upon selection in consultation with the Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facilities and Operations.
