Job Title: Painter (Aircraft and Aerospace)
Job Description

This role focuses on high-quality painting of aircraft shields and automotive-style components within a small, climate-controlled industrial facility. You will serve as a lead-level painter, using advanced surface preparation and spray techniques to apply coatings to a variety of materials while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and production standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough surface preparation, including cleaning, buffing, sanding, blasting, and treating surfaces and parts for aircraft interior shield components and other industrial parts.

  • Inspect masking to ensure vital areas are properly protected before painting and verify that coatings and metal substrates are free from corrosion in line with applicable standards, specifications, and procedures.

  • Paint a wide range of material types using various application methods, including spray painting with industrial spray guns in a paint booth environment.

  • Prepare and prep aircraft shields and similar components, leveraging auto body paint experience to achieve high-quality finishes.

  • Apply paint and coatings to multiple substrates and surfaces, ensuring proper coverage, adhesion, and finish quality.

  • Understand and correctly use paints, solvents, and related materials to work in an efficient and effective manner while minimizing waste.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to plant rules and safety protocols for each job site.

  • Use appropriate hand tools and equipment for industrial painting, sanding, and general labor tasks associated with paint preparation.

  • Wear and correctly use personal protective equipment at all times while working with paints, solvents, and blasting or sanding equipment.

  • Collaborate and work as a team player with other employees in a small group of approximately 20 team members.

  • Adapt to varying job assignments and changing working conditions, supporting the team as the facility settles into its new building.

  • Support production goals by completing painting tasks on schedule and communicating any issues that may affect quality or timelines.

Essential Skills
  • Proven experience as a painter in aircraft, aerospace, or automotive environments, with a high level of paint expertise suitable for a lead painter role.

  • Strong background in industrial painting, including production painting and paint prep for complex parts and surfaces.

  • Hands‑on experience with spray painting using industrial spray guns and working in a paint booth setting.

  • Ability to perform detailed surface preparation, including cleaning, buffing, sanding, blasting, and treating various substrates.

  • Capability to inspect masking, coatings, and metal substrates for corrosion and defects in accordance with standards and specifications.

  • Knowledge of proper use of paints, solvents, and related materials to ensure efficient and effective application.

  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, specifications, and procedural requirements for painting and surface treatment.

  • Comfort working with hand tools and equipment commonly used in industrial and automotive painting and prep.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including consistent use of personal protective equipment and adherence to plant rules.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team and communicate effectively with coworkers.

  • Flexibility to handle varying job assignments and adapt to changing working conditions in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in aircraft interior shield painting or similar aerospace components is highly valued.

  • Auto body painting experience, including prepping and finishing automotive‑style surfaces, is ideal.

  • Experience in mechanical or general industrial labor tasks that support painting operations is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with industrial sanding, blasting, and other surface treatment processes used in aerospace and automotive applications.

  • Ability to contribute as a lead painter within a team of approximately 20 employees, mentoring others as needed.

  • Interest in a contract role with the potential to transition to a permanent position based on performance and skills.

  • Comfort working in a small, employee‑focused facility that is settling into a new building and evolving its processes.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
