Job summary

Chatsworth Products (CPI) is seeking a Paint Technician for our New Bern, NC location. The role centers on setting up and operating powder coat equipment to finish product surfaces while maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will assist in transitions of new products to manufacturing and train teammates as needed. Daily duties include applying powder coatings with spray equipment, inspecting thickness, and coordinating with maintenance to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with powder coating equipment preferred.
• Ability to read engineering specifications and blueprints.
• Willingness to work extended hours including weekends as production demands.

As a CPI Paint Technician, you will occupy a key role in working with and for a company that builds the physical infrastructure that powers, protects, and secures the world’s digital technology. Day to day, you will be responsible for many essential functions, including Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost in the assigned production area. You may assist in the transition of new products into manufacturing, assist operators by answering questions and demonstrating operations, and spot‑check products to ensure quality levels are maintained.

Job Summary

Sets up and operates equipment to paint products with powder coat.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, carrying, lifting, stooping, and crouching.
• Work with powder coat materials and cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to wear a respirator, which is required PPE.
• Lift up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Under minimal supervision, set up powder coat and related equipment to engineering specifications, and prepare equipment for production.
• Use spray gun to apply powder base paint to products.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and attempt to resolve before getting maintenance involved.
• Conduct higher level periodic preventative maintenance on paint equipment as required by the preventative maintenance program.
• Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards and make necessary adjustments.
• Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections or by using viscometers.
• Turn dials, handwheels, valves or switches to regulate conveyor speeds, machine temperature, air pressure and circulation, and the flow of paint.
• Operate auxiliary equipment used in the painting process, including the wash tank and oven.
• Inspect and maintain equipment for compliance with safety requirements, including but not limited to all guarding. Correct any safety issues prior to operating the equipment.
• Inspect coated items for paint coverage and test for coating thickness. Apply consistent magnitude paint thicknesses.
• Resolve quality and mechanical problems, making minor repairs and equipment adjustments as needed.
• Perform paint color changeovers. Clean booth between color changes to prevent cross contamination.
• Prepare parts for rework and apply powder to correct coating defects.
• Cleans and maintains equipment.
• Record operational data on specified forms to track downtime, efficiency and quality checks.
• Assist and train others to paint.
• Work from blueprints, engineering specifications and production schedules.
• Perform pretreatment chemical titration of wash tank.

Additional Functions

• Continuously maintain a clean work area. Dispose of trash and production scrap. Assist in cleaning common areas.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Technical Competencies

• High school or equivalent education preferred.
• A minimum of one (1) year of related experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering specifications to properly select parts.
• Capable of using measuring devices as required for product inspection.
• Good mechanical skills, including the use of hand tools.
• Good troubleshooting skills such that, after a reasonable training period, the employee will be able to evaluate operational problems of the equipment and know the proper corrective actions.
• Ability to read and understand equipment operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting manuals.
• Available and willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as production demand dictates.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
