Job description

GLOBAL Automation Technologies is a FANUC Level 5 Authorized System Integrator delivering turnkey robotic automation for the automotive and advanced manufacturing industries. Founder-owned for 18 years, we have deployed more than 1,000 robots across 22 countries, from Michigan assembly plants to greenfield EV paint shops in the Middle East.

We do more than deliver automation solutions—we invest in people and build careers. Our goal is to help every member of the GLOBAL team grow professionally, develop valuable technical experience, and advance in their career, whether they build a long-term future with us or use their experience at GLOBAL as a foundation for their next opportunity.

This position is a direct-hire role with GLOBAL Automation Technologies. You will be a member of the GLOBAL engineering team and will represent our company while supporting projects within our customers’ facilities. As a GLOBAL engineer, you carry our name, our technical standards, and our commitment to professionalism wherever you are assigned

The Role

We are seeking a hands-on Paint Process Engineer with experience in robotic paint application systems, preferably in automotive manufacturing.

You will develop, commission, optimize, and troubleshoot robotic paint processes from system startup through production launch and customer acceptance. The role requires strong knowledge of robot programming, paint application equipment, process parameters, booth conditions, and finished-part quality.

What You Will Own
  • Develop and optimize robotic paint application processes both offline and online
  • Support installation, commissioning, startup, runoff, and production launch
  • Perform process system verification testing during system build and at customer sites
  • Optimize robot paths, speeds, orientations, trigger points, and spray parameters
  • Tune atomization, shaping air, electrostatics, flow, and related application settings
  • Support rotary atomizers and paint application equipment
  • Develop and maintain paint recipes
  • Troubleshoot film-build, overspray, runs, sags, and other paint-quality issues
  • Conduct film-build and process studies
  • Perform spray testing and customer demonstrations to determine optimal application settings
  • Improve transfer efficiency, material usage, and cycle time
  • Assist with quoting phase – process studies and cycle time analysis
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for existing installations
  • Provide training to GLOBAL engineers and customer personnel on application equipment and process
  • Recommend robot and application equipment improvements to enhance performance and reduce cost
  • Provide technical expertise during sales appointments with GLOBAL sales personnel
How Success Is Measured
  • Paint quality that passes the customer’s eye, not just the spec sheet
  • Film build that stays stable shift after shift
  • Launch and runoff dates met
  • Process defects you close before the customer asks
  • Paint usage and cycle time inside project targets
  • Recipes and documentation finished, not promised
  • Systems that go to production without rework
  • Customer teams trained to run without you
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years of automotive or industrial paint process experience
  • Hands-on robotic paint application experience, preferably FANUC
  • Knowledge of primer, basecoat, and clearcoat processes
  • Experience with rotary atomizers and electrostatic application
  • Experience with both spray gun and bell applications
  • Understanding of paint flow, pressure, atomization, shaping air, and high voltage
  • Experience with PaintPRO, ROBOGUIDE, or other offline programming software
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Experience with startup, commissioning, and production launch
  • Strong customer-facing and plant-floor support skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Valid passport and eligibility for international work assignments
