Job summary

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. seeks a Paint and Coating Engineer to advance exterior paint development for North/South American vehicles. You will work with suppliers, design, and manufacturing teams to validate coatings across primer, e-coat, basecoat, and clear coats.

You will conduct teardowns, audits, and defect analyses, proposing corrective actions and supporting material specifications and testing methodologies. Significant travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science and engineering, polymers and coatings technology, polymer science/engineering, or a related field.
• Professional experience in paint engineering, coatings, or materials.
• Industry experience performing paint formulation, development, and testing responsibilities.
• Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills.
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
• Project management experience.
• Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Validate 2K, 1K, and epoxy waterborne exterior body paint systems for North and South American production sites, coordinating with laboratories, suppliers, and Hyundai R&D in Korea.
• Perform paint-related development vehicle quality teardowns and evaluations at production facilities; conduct quality audits of current production paints.
• Support North/South American manufacturing locations in resolving paint-related quality issues with plant teams and suppliers.
• Analyze paint defects, determine root causes, and propose countermeasures to prevent recurrence for in-plant and in-field vehicles.
• Assist in development of testing/materals specifications and testing methodologies for exterior body coatings.
• Investigate new body paint technologies and collaborate with Hyundai Motor Group suppliers and R&D center in Korea.
