Job summary

The UIndy Teaching Assistant position is a paid internship program that allows UIndy Teacher Education candidates to work in a K-12 district as a paraprofessional while completing their college practicum requirements.

The undergraduate pre-service teacher will work between 15 to 19 hours per week for a 15 to16 week semester (approximately 225-240 hours over the semester.) The Teaching Assistant will be assigned a Mentor Teacher at the school, who will be expected to oversee the UIndy internship

Qualifications

• Must be a current UIndy student enrolled in the Education Program seeking licensure.
• Must be a referral from the UIndy Apprenticeship Program.
• Previous experience in a school system is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher and help increase student achievement.
• Assist with restrooms and feeding needs of students.
• Model professionalism in appearance, actions, and attitude.
• Ensure that all activities conform to building and district guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with staff and the community.
• React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
• Operate classroom equipment as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
