Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance, a mutual carrier, invites motivated students to join our Underwriting team for the summer of 2027. The role emphasizes learning coverages, contracts, company philosophy and procedures to support underwriting decisions.

You will analyze loss experience and risk characteristics, become familiar with policies, forms and endorsements, and communicate effectively with independent agents and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and entering junior or senior year in college.
• Ability to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independently
• Above-average communication skills (written and verbal)
• Interest in developing product knowledge through approved educational programs

Responsibilities

• Learn insurance coverages and contracts along with company philosophy and procedures to understand underwriting decisions.
• Become familiar with policies, manuals and endorsements to understand their meaning and use.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions and physical characteristics of risks.
• Acquire a working knowledge of supporting sections of the underwriting department.
• Effectively communicate with independent agents and other employees through verbal and/or written means.
