Job summary

FMNE Insurance Company in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking an Actuarial Intern to join its Actuarial Department for Summer 2027. This paid internship focuses on data-driven analysis, pricing design, and loss reserving work, offering hands-on experience with actuarial methods.

The role supports rate proposals, dataset maintenance, and cross-department analyses, while developing skills in Excel and in R/SAS, with CAS pathway consideration. Regular office attendance is expected.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field required.
• Interest in learning about P&C insurance and achieving membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
• Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, with advanced skills in Excel.
• Familiarity with various analytical and modeling software such as R or SAS, helpful.
• Some knowledge of programming such as Visual Basic and macros.
• Strong quantitative and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design, development, and application of methods to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data relating to product pricing, design, and loss reserving analysis.
• Prepare reports and provide relevant summaries to management.
• Support other departments with analyses and reports to evaluate business performance.
• Maintain, validate, and analyze actuarial datasets.
• Assist in the gathering and analysis of loss reserving and loss frequency/severity information.
• Assist in preparation and implementation of rate proposals.
• Apply best practices and create enhancements in work products.
