Mindrift is conducting a three-day, in-person study in Midtown Manhattan with native German speakers who grew up in Austria. The study seeks to understand everyday smartphone use across languages and cultures. You will share real-life usage examples and complete a brief habits questionnaire.

Participants will be compensated at $100 per hour, up to $2,400 for the full study, with consent and optional questions available at any point.

Qualifications

• 18+ and currently living in NYC.
• Native German speaker who grew up in Austria.
• You use German in everyday life: texting, email, notes.
• You’ve used a smartphone as your main personal phone for 3+ years.
• Comfortable communicating in English.
• Available for 3 consecutive days (Mon-Wed or Thu-Sat), starting Oct 16 on Friday.
• Not currently employed by a tech or AI company.

Job description

Mindrift is running a research study on how people use their phones, apps and everyday digital tools, and how that differs across languages and cultures. We're looking for native German speakers in New York to join a paid, 3-day in-person study in Midtown Manhattan.

Why your language matters

Most technology is still designed with English speakers in mind. This study helps researchers understand how people who communicate in German actually use their devices, so future products work better for them.
