Job summary

The American Heart Association offers an internship program for college students to gain hands-on experience in non-profit health services and community impact work based in Oklahoma.

Position is remote with Oklahoma-based eligibility, requiring 20–25 hours/week and some travel to Tulsa and Oklahoma City for local events. Competitive hourly compensation and professional development resources are provided.

Qualifications

• Seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy, or related field.
• Willingness to travel between Tulsa and Oklahoma City for events occasionally.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and pay attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Canva.
• Must have reliable internet access and transportation.
• Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F 9am-5pm.

Responsibilities

• Assist in organizing and implementing community health initiatives and programs.
• Support work around hypertension control and nutrition insecurity.
• Engage rural healthcare centers and community-based organizations.
• Assist with internal program evaluations.
• Assist the community impact team in communicating the impact of local work.
• Identify impact stories via research and interviews for dissemination.
• Develop resources meeting community health needs such as playbooks and tools.
• Explore state or local organizations for collaboration opportunities.
• Assist planning and implementation of trainings and community impact meetings.
• Attend internal and external meetings including health fairs and events.
