Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is offering a Patient Care Assistant Training Program in acute inpatient units. This six-month paid program begins January 2027, includes two weeks of classroom training, and prepares participants for CNA certification with hands-on clinical experience.

Participants will learn essential nursing skills, documentation, infection control, patient safety, and communication with the care team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or current enrollment in HS/GED program.
• Completion of the Gold Standard classroom training program within 3 weeks of hire.
• Completion of the Knowledge Assessment and Skills & Technique Validation after training.

Responsibilities

• Learn basic nursing skills and document patient care activities.
• Document intake/output and other metrics in the patient care system.
• Maintain a neat, clean patient room and safe care environment.
• Notify RN of changes in vital signs, mental status or patient needs as they occur.
