Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is offering a paid PCA Training Program in its acute inpatient units, starting January 2027. The six‑month program includes classroom training and hands‑on clinical practice to build essential nursing skills and documentation habits.

Participants will learn vital signs, ADLs, infection prevention, and safe patient handling, preparing for CNA certification pursuits. Day and night shifts available; apply by Nov 1, 2026 with interviews starting October.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or currently enrolled in program.
• Complete Gold Standard classroom training within 3 weeks of hire.
• Finish knowledge assessment and skills validation after Gold Standard program.

Responsibilities

• Learn to take vital signs, pulse oximetry, glucose with fingersticks, and document results.
• Record intake/output, meal consumption, and other care activities in the chart.
• Assist with ADLs, mobility, and basic patient care under RN supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe patient environment and adhere to infection prevention.
• Notify RN promptly of changes in condition or skin integrity; support fall precautions.
• Care for patients in restraints, including ROM, fluids, and toileting as directed.
• Reorient confused patients and provide patient/family education on safety.
