Job summary

UNC Health is offering a paid Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) in Raleigh, NC. This full-time, 12-month program combines up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with 144 hours of online coursework to prepare participants for a Certified Medical Assistant role.

Apprentices progress through three learning phases in outpatient clinics, and upon successful completion may pursue a permanent Medical Assistant I position within UNC Health after certification.

Qualifications

• No prior healthcare experience required
• Structured mentorship and professional development
• Certification exam preparation

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and/or intake with vital signs and data collection.
• Collects patient data including medical history and medications.
• Assists providers during treatments and procedures; collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
• Performs diagnostic tests such as EKG and eye exams.
• Maintains exam rooms and supplies, and sterilizes instruments.
• Provides after-visit instructions and patient education materials.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, scheduling, and test coordination.
