Job summary

UNC Health in North Carolina offers a Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) that combines up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with 144 hours of online coursework, preparing participants for a Certified Medical Assistant role.

The 12-month program progresses through Administrative and Clinical learning phases in an outpatient clinic setting, with completion enabling application for a permanent Medical Assistant I, Certified position within UNC Health.

Qualifications

• Paid, full-time apprenticeship with online coursework and hands-on training.
• No prior healthcare experience required.
• Certification exam prep and career placement support.
• Completion leads to eligibility for Medical Assistant I, Certified position.

Responsibilities

• Perform rooming and patient intake with vitals and data collection.
• Gather patient history, medications, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
• Assist providers during treatments and examinations; collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• Support with tests such as EKGs and eye exams under supervision.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms and materials; stock supplies.
• Provide post-visit instructions and patient education.
• Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and clinic communications.
