Job summary

Modern Railway Systems is seeking a Construction Management Intern to work with field engineers and project management staff to keep projects on time and on budget.

The role supports planning, ordering, and tracking of materials; includes CAD literacy and data interpretation; requires math reasoning and strong communication. Location is G Line Office—So Cal; internships offer stipends and travel support.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of Bachelors of Construction Management, Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college
• Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
• Able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
• Able to write presentations and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; ability to make effective and persuasive arguments and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors; ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases
• Ability to use computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software
• Ability to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra, and statistical theory
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
• Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables

Responsibilities

• Work directly with Field Engineers directing and planning the efforts of others and maintain accountability for work accuracy and completeness
• Train individuals on work processes and technical requirements as required
• Maintain records regarding job progress, costs, material usage, etc.
• May assist in detailed planning and scheduling of job segments
• Investigate problems and/or incidents; identify and recommend solutions/alternates
• Review plans and specifications to determine material requirements, pricing, etc.
• Work with suppliers to facilitate material delivery
• Aid in estimating projects including quantity take-offs
• Perform other duties as assigned
