Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, is seeking a Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse. You will deliver safe, evidence‑based care in PACU and support pre‑op processes, pain management, and patient education.

Collaboration with surgical and anesthesia teams is essential for safe transitions to inpatient units or discharge. Qualified candidates hold a DC RN license with current BLS/ACLS, and have at least 1 year of PACU/ICU/ED experience.

Qualifications

• Active DC RN license
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• Minimum 1 year PACU/ICU/ED experience
• CPAN or CAPA certification and BSN preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in PACU and Pre‑Op areas.
• Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and recovery status post‑anesthesia.
• Prepare patients for procedures with assessments and education.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and other care providers.
• Document care in the EMR accurately and timely.
• Educate patients and families and support the recovery journey.
