Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, seeks a PACU/Pre-Op Registered Nurse to provide safe, evidence-based post‑anesthesia care and perioperative support. You’ll monitor hemodynamics, manage pain, educate patients and families, and coordinate care with surgical, anesthesia, and recovery teams.

Requirements include a current DC RN license, BLS and ACLS, and at least 1 year in PACU/ICU/ED. BSN preferred; CPAN/CAPA valued.

Qualifications

• Current DC RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certification required (AHA).
• Minimum 1 year of PACU, ICU, or Emergency Department experience.
• CPAN or CAPA certification preferred; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in the PACU and Pre-Op areas.
• Monitor vital signs, pain, and recovery status post‑anesthesia.
• Prepare patients for procedures, including assessment and IV initiation.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and care teams.
• Respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
• Document all care in the EMR.
• Educate and reassure patients and families throughout the surgical journey.
