Job summary

The US Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to join a VHA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). The LPN performs non-standard and specialized nursing activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse, with broad experience and the ability to independently resolve nursing care decisions.

Applicants pending licensure may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Qualifications

• United States citizenship required; non-citizens may be considered per VA policy.
• English proficiency in writing and speaking required for direct patient care.

• Active, full, current and unrestricted LPN/LVN licensure in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth.

Responsibilities

• Provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with various physical and/or behavioral problems.
• Orient/train less experienced LPNs/LVNs and/or Nursing Assistants under RN/MD supervision.
• Educate patients and/or families about disease processes, medications, and prescribed treatment regimes.
• Prepare, administer and document medications as permitted by policy; monitor patient response.
• Recognize need for emergency measures and initiate appropriate interventions with RN/MD/DO support.
• Collaborate with RN/MD and document patient information to ensure safe care.
