Job description

This position’s primary responsibilities will be the daily packaging of beer into bottles, cans, and keg packages, operate packaging machinery and the cleaning and sanitation of packaging areas and machinery. The Packaging Technician position is full-time and will report directly to the Packaging Manager. Additionally, the Packaging Technician will work closely with all production departments including Quality Control.

The following list of essential job duties is not all-inclusive; the Packaging Technician is required to perform other duties as directed by the Packaging Lead and Packaging Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  1. Regular attendance to work packaging shifts as scheduled by packaging manager weekly.
  2. Learn, understand, and execute packaging operations according to standard operating procedures.
  3. Safely operate tray packer and load finished beer cases onto pallets.
  4. Operate pallet jacks and forklifts to move pallets throughout brewery.
  5. Operate can label applicator and carton packing equipment with minimal supervision.
  6. Clean and fill kegs in accordance with safety standards and SOPs.
  7. Work in tandem with Supervisors, Production Managers, Packaging Manager, and QC/ QA.
  8. Operate machinery following all safety guidelines in an efficient manner.
  9. Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to brewery standards.
  10. Keep the packaging areas and workspaces clean and organized.
  11. Help as needed in all other parts of the brewery and demonstrate a cohesive team environment.
  12. Communicate all mechanical issues to maintenance department.
  13. Communicate the department’s materials needs to ensure the production schedule is executable.
  14. Attend departmental meetings and brewery staff meetings as requested by Packaging Manager.
  15. Maintain packaging tools and materials by storing safely, neatly and in an organized fashion.
  16. Complete all paperwork associated with each duty with 100% accuracy.
  17. Assist co-workers and cross train in other departments to ensure brewery goals are accomplished.
  18. Basic computer proficiency including, but not limited to, email and MS Office Suite.
  19. Extremely high level of attention to detail.
  20. Positive attitude with an ongoing sense of urgency.
  21. Proven ability to work well with others.
  22. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  23. A flexible schedule with the ability to work nights and weekends.
  24. Advanced mathematical and reasoning skills.
  25. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  26. Strong overall understanding of safety procedures, regulations and requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to continually lift 65 pounds and move 175 pounds regularly and repeatedly.
  2. Must have the ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, work from heights, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  3. The ability to work near moving parts and machinery.
  4. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus and the ability to see color, either with or without accommodation.
  5. The ability to work in loud, wet, cold, hot, indoor, and outdoor environments frequently.
