Job summary

Cella by Randstad Digital in Framingham, MA, is seeking a talented Packaging Designer for a 5-month W2 contract hybrid role (2 days/week in office). You will drive trend-right packaging and branding across home, trend, and accessories categories, collaborating with Product Development, Buying, Regulatory, and Legal teams to ensure brand integrity and on-time production.

Qualifications

• Education requirement: degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, Visual Communications, or related field.
• 5–8 years of hands-on retail packaging design experience.
• Expert Adobe Creative Suite skills and print/production knowledge.
• Portfolio demonstrating packaging design and production-ready prints.
• Experience leading freelancers or junior designers under tight timelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead creation of trend-forward brand packaging across home, trend, and accessories categories including boxes and labels.
• Manage pre-press approvals, proofing, tolerances, and color management from concept to shelf.
• Direct package photography and styling, ensuring timely delivery.
• Collaborate with Product Development, Trend Teams, Buyers, Regulatory, and Legal to uphold brand integrity.
• Coordinate external vendors and overseas suppliers to meet Time & Action schedules.
• Oversee designers and freelancers to align with brand standards.

About the Role

Cella is seeking a talented Packaging Designer on behalf of our client, a leading multinational retail corporation, for a 5-month contract position.

In this role, the Packaging Designer will serve as a key creative force driving the development of trend-right packaging and branding across assigned product categories.

Working in close collaboration with Product Development and Buying teams, this position is responsible for creating compelling brand packaging solutions while managing vendor and supplier relationships to ensure technical quality, brand consistency, and production deadlines are strictly met.

Location/Commutability: Candidates must be commutable to Framingham, MA (Hybrid schedule: 2 days/week on-site).

Responsibilities

• Brand Packaging Creation & Design: Lead and execute the creation of trend-forward, brand-aligned packaging solutions across various home, trend, and accessories categories (including boxes, hangtags, labels, and structural artwork layouts).
• Execution & Technical Proofing: Manage project workflow from initial concept through shelf delivery, providing pre-press approvals, proofing text/regulatory content, establishing print/color/construction tolerances, and conducting color management.
• Photography & Styling Direction: Manage package photography requirements, directing on-set styling, content layout, photo quality, and shot timelines.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with Product Development Managers, Trend Teams, Buyers, Regulatory Affairs, and Legal/Trademark administrators to align designs with business goals, legal standards, and brand integrity.
• Vendor & Supply Chain Coordination: Direct external vendors and overseas suppliers through established approval processes, maintaining strict Time & Action (T&A) schedules to ensure packaging quality standards and production deadlines are met.
• Team Guidance: Oversee, prioritize, and review project assignments for freelancers, contractors, and junior designers to ensure alignment with brand style guides and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or a degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
• Professional Experience: 5 to 8 years of professional, hands‑on packaging design experience within retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), home goods, apparel, or softlines.
• Software Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and standard office productivity programs.
• Print & Production Expertise: In-depth knowledge of print processes, production requirements, pre-press preparation, dielines, typography, color theory, and material construction specifications.
• Portfolio Requirement: A professional portfolio demonstrating hands‑on retail packaging design, branding systems, visual layouts, and production‑ready print components.
• Leadership Skills: Proven experience providing art direction to freelancers, cross‑functional partners, or multi-disciplinary creative team members while managing tight project timelines.
