Job summary

Simmons Foods in Dubuque, IA is seeking a Packaging Inspector to support our manufacturing line. You will inspect cans for label alignment, codes, dents, and other defects, and assist with changeovers and sanitation to keep production running smoothly.

The role requires basic reading and writing in English, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a hands-on approach to machine operation and GMP practices in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Machine operation experience in manufacturing/process environments.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure leads are aware of changes for can size, codes, and schedule.
  • Inspect cans for label alignment, codes, UPCs, dents, and other defects.
  • Strip improper labels with hands and cutting tools.
  • Notify supervisor/maintenance of mechanical problems.
  • Notify Tray Packer of label or code changes.
  • Monitor and ensure proper label adhesion.
  • Assist with can changeovers and downtime management.
  • Verify can codes match schedule and labels.
  • Communicate changeovers with Unloader/Brite Stacker operators and Palletizer.
  • Perform weekly sanitation.

  • Inspect cans for; label alignment, can codes, UPC, dents, droops and all other can defects
  • Strip improper labels with hands and cutting utensil
  • Notify supervisor and maintenance of any mechanical problems or potential problems
  • Notify Tray Packer operator of label or code changes
  • Monitor and ensure proper label adhesion
  • Assist with can changeovers.
  • Manage down time for cleanup.
  • Verify that the can code matches the schedule and labels.
  • Communicate changeovers with Unloader/Brite Stacker operators.
  • Communicate with Palletizer operator to ensure proper pallet count.
  • Perform weekly sanitation.
Participates as a member of the Team

Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives:

Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to walk up and down stairs.

Technical Experience:

Machine Operation preferred. Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.

Industry Experience:

Manufacturing or warehouse.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must be able to read, write and understand English.
