Overview

Purpose of the Position: To assist the supervisor in accomplishing production requirements per company, customer and government requirements.

Responsibilities

• Orientate new team members to their jobs, including basic dress requirements, good manufacturing practices, safety aspects, job assignments and sanitation procedures and policies; act as a mentor.
• Communicate with team members, supervisors, management, QA and USDA regarding information about the line; complete required written and electronic reports.
• Assist with timekeeping management of line/department employees (schedule rotations, breaks, etc.).
• Set up equipment for the line daily for start-up and ensure standards and quality are met within the department.
• Work on the line with product and monitor belts to ensure that the proper speed is set; help meet daily goals and improve morale within the department.
• Demonstrate organizational skills and compliance with USDA requirements.
• Participate as a member of the team; contribute to development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; attend appropriate team meetings.
• Foster cohesiveness on major issues (direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes) and identify areas needing attention; work with the team to resolve issues and reinforce actions to achieve synergy.
• Understand Simmons operating systems principles and objectives; maintain familiarity with systems and the position’s role in support of these systems; communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
• Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives; recognize this description may not cover all work required.

Physical and Safety Requirements

• Physical Activities: Frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; standing; bending, twisting, climbing stairs or ladders; kneeling; crawling; power grasping; pushing/pulling; reaching; repetitive motion; constant walking; fine manipulation; use of vision, hearing and speech.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): waterproof gloves, sleeves, waterproof slip-resistant footwear and ear plugs.

Experience and Certifications

• Technical Experience: May need to obtain and maintain a company-issued forklift and pallet jack license.
• Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Education

• Minimum Education: Basic math skills, reading, writing, computer knowledge, and good communication skills in English.
• Preferred Education: Bilingual preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent.
