Job summary

Sonos is seeking a Packaging Experience Engineer to own the structural and three-dimensional packaging design for premium consumer products, from concept through mass production. This role sits in the Goleta office on a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office presence three days per week.

You will sketch, build models, and produce dielines, working with packaging engineering, sourcing, and suppliers to validate fit and ensure design intent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Packaging, or a related design discipline is required.
• 5+ years of professional experience in industrial design, structural packaging design, or product development for premium consumer products.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating three-dimensional design thinking, sketching ability, and finished physical execution.

Responsibilities

• Own structural and three-dimensional design for assigned packaging programs, from box architecture through trays, inserts, and retention components.
• Develop original concepts through sketching, paper studies, CAD, and physical models; design the unboxing with intentional pacing and reveal.
• Produce dielines, 3D models, and structural documentation for fabrication by packaging engineering and suppliers.
• Carry assigned programs from concept through production release, ensuring craft, timing, and design intent.
• Build models and prototypes by hand and machine; review supplier prototypes and mass production samples; drive issues to resolution.
• Act as design liaison with packaging engineering, sourcing, suppliers, and converters; translate design intent into buildable guidance.
• Present structural design work and its rationale to cross-functional teams and leadership.
• Collaborate with product industrial design to align packaging form with product direction; contribute to packaging design system components.
• Influence sustainability through fiber alternatives, material reduction, and recyclability.
