Job summary

Otis is seeking a Packaging Engineer in Florence, SC to design and implement packaging solutions that protect elevator components and optimize transport.

You will collaborate across manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and suppliers; lead improvement projects; support NPI and sustainability initiatives.

The ideal candidate has a packaging or engineering degree and 3+ years of related experience; CPP or Lean Six Sigma is a plus; authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 3 years of relevant engineering experience, including packaging, manufacturing, logistics, or a closely related discipline.
• Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience supporting industrial packaging, manufacturing or distribution operations, with exposure to packaging design, transportation damage reduction, validation, and testing.
• Professional certifications or training such as CPP, Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, Project Management certification, or ISTA packaging training are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, validate, and implement packaging to protect products during storage, handling, and transport.
• Lead packaging improvement projects to reduce damage, improve pack density, and cut costs.
• Support NPI by developing packaging specs, validation plans, and transportation testing.
• Perform root-cause investigations using 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methods.
• Develop and maintain packaging standards, drawings, BOMs, and labeling.
• Collaborate with suppliers and logistics to standardize packaging and ensure compliance.
• Identify and drive sustainability initiatives like recyclable materials and waste reduction.
• Support capital planning, automation, and packaging equipment initiatives.
