Job summary

Panasonic Energy Corporation of America is seeking a Packaging Engineer for our Columbus, GA site to lead design, development, and optimization of packaging for alkaline batteries and cells. You will own the full lifecycle of packaging materials from suppliers to retail and consumer waste management, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

The role requires 3+ years in packaging engineering, CAD proficiency, and cross-functional leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in packaging science, mechanical engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of packaging engineering experience in high-volume consumer goods.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and ArtiosCAD.
• Knowledge of corrugated board, folding cartons, thermoformed plastics, and films.
• Strong project management to lead cross-functional teams on launches.
• Occasional international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Retail & Consumer Design: develop primary packaging for consumer retail that enhances brand and meets usability and regulatory needs.
• Regulatory Compliance & Safety: ensure packaging complies with UN38.3 and DOT/IATA HazMat rules.
• Technical Specifications: create and maintain BOMs, drawings, and component specs.
• Performance Testing: carry out drop, vibration, and environmental tests for global supply chain.
• Sustainability & Cost Optimization: reduce waste and optimize palletization using Cape Pack/TOPS.
• Manufacturing Support: work with production teams to integrate designs with high-speed lines.
• Vendor Management: qualify packaging suppliers and conduct audits to ensure quality and cost competitiveness.
