Engineer Outside the Box (Literally): Packaging Engineer - Hybrid Role

A global medical device leader in the Saint Paul, MN, area is looking for an innovative Packaging Engineer to join their R&D team in a hybrid role. If you're passionate about product innovation, medical device packaging, and solving complex challenges with smart design, this is your chance to engineer meaningful impact from concept to customer!



Hours & Pay


Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM


Pay: Up to $59.00 per hour (based on experience)


Employment Type: Contract with hybrid flexibility



Key Responsibilities



  • Design and develop innovative medical device packaging solutions

  • Lead packaging initiatives for new product development and sustaining engineering projects

  • Create and manage documentation including packaging specifications, test protocols, and validation reports

  • Analyze test results and recommend design improvements based on data

  • Coordinate packaging testing and evaluate the feasibility of processes, equipment, and materials

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including global engineering, manufacturing, and clinical stakeholders

  • Translate customer needs into clear product and packaging requirements

  • Apply ISO 11607, ASTM, ISTA standards, and Quality System principles throughout the development lifecycle

Required Qualifications



  • A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering

  • Minimum 4 years of Packaging R&D experience, with at least 3 years in medical devices (manufacturing or distribution experience preferred)

  • Experience with packaging materials (Tyvek, films, thermoformed trays, injection molded parts, etc.)

  • Familiarity with packaging process/equipment qualification and design control requirements

  • Strong technical writing, data analysis, and project coordination skills

  • Skilled in root cause analysis and experimental design using statistical methodologies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across global teams

  • Self-motivated, organized, and results-driven

  • Able to travel up to 10% as needed
