Job summary

Openwork is seeking a Packaging Specialist for the 2nd shift in Houston, TX. You will package products, read packing lists, inspect materials, and prepare shipments while operating a forklift. This hands-on role requires 2+ years in manufacturing or packaging and the ability to read English and basic measurements.

Responsibilities

• Package rolled and flat products per customer requirements
• Read and follow packing lists, shop copies, and packing instructions
• Inspect materials for dimensions, quality and defects
• Prepare pallets, crates, shrink wrap, labels, and export packaging
• Operate a forklift to move, stage, and prepare materials for shipment
• Label and move scrap materials and maintain records
• Keep areas clean, organized, and safe and follow safety procedures

NOW HIRING: PACKAGING SPECIALIST – 2ND SHIFT

Location: Houston, TX 77028

Pay: $20.00 per hour | Weekly Pay

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 2:30 PM – 1:30 AM

Hours: Approximately 40–60 hours per week

Overtime: Required as needed

Openwork is hiring an experienced Packaging Specialist – 2nd Shift for a growing metals manufacturing facility in Houston. This hands‑on opportunity is ideal for someone with manufacturing, packaging, forklift, and material‑handling experience who values safety, quality, and dependable work.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Package rolled and flat products according to customer requirements
• Read and follow packing lists, shop copies, and packaging instructions
• Inspect materials for correct dimensions, quality, and defects
• Prepare pallets, crates, shrink wrap, banding, labels, and export packaging
• Operate a forklift to move, stage, and prepare materials for shipment
• Separate, weigh, label, and move scrap materials
• Maintain accurate packaging and material records
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
• Follow all quality, environmental, and workplace safety procedures

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 2+ years of manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, or material‑handing experience required
• Forklift operating experience required; skills will be evaluated during the interview process
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math
• Ability to pass a basic math test and background check
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
• Reliable and consistent attendance
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
• Ability to frequently lift 50–75 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, and remain active throughout the shift
• Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled environment and in hot temperatures
• Flexibility to work required overtime
• Overhead crane experience is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT & SAFETY

• Respirator required throughout the entire shift
• Must meet facial‑hair requirements necessary for a proper respirator seal
• Showering at the end of each shift is mandatory
• Work involves lead‑based materials
• Periodic blood testing is required
• Must follow all PPE, hygiene, environmental, and safety procedures
• Must be able to perform physical work safely in a non-climate-controlled environment
