Job summary

Magris Talc in Ludlow, Vermont is seeking a production operator to run packaging and processing plant equipment, operate mobile equipment, and perform in-process quality testing while following safety policies.

You will perform routine maintenance, complete production logs and work orders, assist in training others, and uphold housekeeping standards. Forklift certification or experience is preferred, and teamwork, basic math, and clear communication are essential.

Job description

Job Summary/Purpose: Operates packaging and processing plant equipment in a production capacity. Operates mobile equipment. Performs quality testing of in process products. Works under limited supervision in accordance with established federal & state regulations and company prescribed work procedures and safety policies. Performs housekeeping activities. Performs minor maintenance of production equipment.

Key Tasks And Responsibilities
  • Has a proactive approach to safety and is motivated to correct hazards and propose solutions.
  • Wears specified protective clothing and equipment, including, but not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, safety goggles, hi-vis, and steel-toed boots; maintains good housekeeping practices; and follows prescribed safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of excellence through fully implementing all HSEQ programs, demonstrating personal ownership and accountability, and supporting continuous improvement programs.
  • Understands quality, role impacts, business goals, and customer requirements.
  • Accurately completes all necessary work-place exams and documentation as required.
  • Starts and operates machinery, including but not limited to semi-bulk packaging equipment, palletizer systems, conveyors, pneumatic blowers and dust collectors in a safe and efficient manner. Continuously monitors efficiency throughout shift.
  • Loads van trucks, boxcars, bulk PD railcars, and bulk truck trailers with finished product. Working at heights required.
  • Insures proper connections are made to obtain required product from the proper storage vessel.
  • Operates mobile equipment to transport product and railcars – includes forklifts, telehandlers, loaders, and personnel lifts.
  • Performs assigned routine maintenance on machinery and equipment as required.
  • Keeps area(s) of assignment clean of spills. Cleans assigned area(s) on a routine basis. Coordinates housekeeping for assigned area(s).
  • Completes daily production logs and maintenance work orders and all required report forms.
  • Required to instruct or assist in the instruction or training of others; take additional training as necessary; and/or assist with the installation, relocation, and testing of equipment.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Forklift Certification/License preferred.
  • Mineral processing, packaging experience, and/or knowledge of HMI plant production equipment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication and listening comprehension.
  • Communicate in a reasonable, logical, adult-to-adult manner.
  • Possesses an excellent working knowledge of computer operation and demonstrates ability to perform advanced computer functions.
  • Assist others with their tasks, accept coaching and decisions, and understand team goals.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player.
  • First aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED).
