Job summary

General Formulations in Sparta, MI is seeking a Slitter Helper to ensure packaging materials are ready for each shift's orders, label rolls accurately, and prepare them for shipment according to customer specifications.

You will assist in removing rolls from rewind machinery, operate a hand jack or hoist as needed, and maintain a safe, clean work area while following PPE and LOTO requirements. A high school diploma or GED is preferred; manufacturing experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

Under the direction of the Slitter Operator, this individual will be responsible for having all of the packaging materials ready for all orders that will be produced for the shift and will also aid in the removal of rolls from the machines, properly label the rolls, and package them to our customer specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Clock in upon arrival, also punch into packaging and clock out when leaving GF property.
  • Have all the packaging supplies ready for the order that is scheduled, either by looking at the sales order, asking the operator or looking it up in the customer specification book.
  • Look at Customer Shipment Entry Dashboard to verify if they need to find a partial skid to add to, or if they need to start a new skid for the part that is scheduled.
  • When time permits, help safely remove the rolls from the rewind shafts, and correctly label the parts and package them for the wrappers.
  • Once the order has been produced and the skid is finished, the Slitter Helper will either take the finished skid to the wrapper using a hand jack or if the skid can still be added to, they will place the skid in one of the unfinished skid locations.
  • Knowledge of why and how to reinforce skids when needed, while safely using power tools and pneumatic tools.
  • Must have awareness of surroundings and be able to pay attention to details.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Operate safely with a hot glue gun.
  • Operate an electric or manual hand jack.
  • Operate a banding gun.
  • Operate a hoist system for lifting rolls that are larger than what can be lifted by hand.
  • Able to understand and use Epicor s Customer Shipment Entry.
  • Able to keep up with 2 manual machines.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and interested in learning other positions.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Must work well with others in a team atmosphere.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Detail / Quality oriented.
  • Work overtime when needed.
  • Able to maintain a clean work area.
  • Be a safety conscious individual who takes their time to do all duties properly and safely.
Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or GED and manufacturing experience preferred but not necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing and lifting.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to traverse facility on unforgiving surfaces.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold climates and in an environment with various noises.
Safety Requirements
  • Must wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): Safety Glasses must be worn while in the production areas.
  • When using hot glue gun, must wear gloves and arm sleeves.
  • Must wear work appropriate apparel. No hoodies, open toe shoes or head/earphones.
  • Must use proper lifting techniques.
  • Must Use proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) rules for mechanical issues.
  • When using chemicals, must replace them in the original container and be labeled to identify the contents inside.
  • Must make sure there is at least one person who knows where you are always in case of fire or natural disaster as part of the buddy system.
