Job summary

Georgia Nut Company in Illinois is seeking a Packaging Operator to monitor and adjust packaging lines, ensure products meet quality standards, and keep the area clean and efficient.

  • Stop, reset, and report machine malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Log downtime and batch information; complete GMP paperwork.
  • Assist with line changeovers and cleaning; maintain a clean workspace.
  • Collaborate with maintenance on troubleshooting and repairs.

Job description

Summary

Operators will observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards. Will adjust machine components and machine tension and pressure according to size or processing angle of product. Remove finished packaged items from machine and separate rejected items. Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work effectively and efficiently with teammate to package products to the best of their capability.
  • Monitors a packaging machine during the packaging process in order to identify and correct malfunctions.
  • Adjust machine components and machine film tension and pressure according to size or processing former of product.
  • Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor.
  • Regulate machine flow, speed, or temperature.
  • Ability to work with a variety of equipment, while keeping area clean, organized and free of clutter.
  • Perform metal detector verification to ensure product is free of metal.
  • Complete paperwork which includes downtime, machine log, and batch Orders.
  • Assist with team directing during change over and/or cleaning.
  • Report any safety matters or malfunctions to the line lead person, or Supervisor.
  • Perform all job functions within required General Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).
  • Understand and use production standards, specifications and advise when producing inefficiently.
  • Keep accurate and legible documentation.
  • Work with maintenance to help trouble shooting of machine problems.
  • Verify that product meets quality standards, while counting and recording finished and rejected packaged items.
  • Clean, oil, and make minor adjustments or repairs to machinery and equipment, such as opening valves or setting guides.
Qualifications
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
  • Standing on a concrete floor.
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform).
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to work weekends during peak season.
  • Required to work mandatory overtime when needed.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements:
  • Have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent education.
  • Associate shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Basic math skills, communication skills, computer skills, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have mechanical skills to troubleshoot and or make adjustments as necessary to ensure a quality product.
  • The ability to stand on a concrete floor for long period of time. Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
  • Associate must work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes completing deadlines.
  • Work area is to be KEPT CLEAN at all times.
  • Good attendance is a condition of employment
