Job summary

Disability Rights Texas is seeking a Team Advocate for the PABSS program in Austin, TX. The role focuses on advocating for Social Security beneficiaries, evaluating eligibility, and delivering non-litigation services in coordination with an attorney.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Studies, Social Services, or a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience; or four (4) years of equivalent experience
• Knowledge of federal/state laws affecting individuals with disabilities (ADA, Rehab Act, Social Security benefits); ability to acquire knowledge quickly
• Ability to develop and implement case strategies by analyzing complex problems and identifying solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and collaboration with diverse audiences
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
• Confidentiality and safeguarding of sensitive information; professionalism and ethical decision-making
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

• Conduct client interviews, gather information, and assess eligibility for services
• Investigate complaints, analyze facts, and identify advocacy issues
• Develop and implement case strategies in coordination with supervising attorney
• Manage assigned caseload with documentation, follow-up, and progression
• Communicate case status and advocacy efforts with clients, staff, and stakeholders
• Prepare written advocacy materials including complaints, reports, and summaries
• Provide advocacy services including negotiation and problem resolution to support employment outcomes
• Maintain complete case records in compliance with standards
• Apply laws, regulations, and program requirements relevant to disability rights and Social Security benefits
• Develop and deliver outreach presentations and educational materials
• Utilize case management systems to support service delivery
• Travel as needed to provide services and attend training
• Participate in team meetings and organizational initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned
