Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health Inc. is seeking a Night Surgery Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to support a General Surgery team with perioperative coverage across multidisciplinary surgical services.

The role includes first‑assist responsibilities and collaboration with physicians under supervision. Ideal candidates hold PA or NP licensure in New Jersey, with ACLS/BLS certification and NCCPA or ANCC/AANP board certification, and possess strong communication and computer skills

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program.
• NLN/AACN accredited nursing program graduate with NP master/doctorate.
• Current licensure as PA or NP with applicable state prescriptive authority.

Responsibilities

• Night shift coverage for the General Surgery team with perioperative duties.
• Provide first‑assist responsibilities across multiple surgical services as needed, including Vascular, Urology/Gyn, Plastic, ENT and Orthopedics.

Job description

The Night Surgery Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with RNFA assists, monitors, and manages the day-to-day needs of patients as requested by, in conjunction with, and under the supervision of a physician. Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Physician Assistant according to customary and generally accepted medical standards.

Position will support a General Surgery team and provide perioperative coverage across multidisciplinary surgical services. The position would primarily support General Surgery, with coverage and first-assist responsibilities across additional surgical services as needed, including Vascular Surgery, Urology/Gyn, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Orthopedic Surgery.

Night shift position.

Weekends and holidays as needed

No on-call committment

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program, accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Physician Assistant License.
• National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program.
• Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Maintains clinical competencies through continuing education and clinical practice.
• Experience in a relevant patient care setting (or as regulations dictate).
• National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Prescriptive authority through CDS and DEA registration according to New Jersey state law.
• Collaborative agreement with physicians on staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications:

• NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
• Advance Practice Nurse License.
• BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
