At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.Specific ResponsibilitiesManages the process of sample preparationsMaintains shift production levels and ensures sample preparation work meets required turnaround timeCoordinate and prioritize daily workloadsEnsures that all Standard Operating Procedures are adhered toEnsures that all staff follow safety procedures and policies when workingDetermines when client sample processing instructions are missing, incomplete or ambiguous; accomplishes this by close liaison with layout personnel and the work order entry groupMaintains close liaison with Manager, Assistant Manager, and other lab staff to ensure the smooth delivery of our services to clientsIdentifies and resolves internal and external problems when they ariseInvestigate client inquiries and complaints related to quality issues and be able to suggest proactive actionsResponsible for training and development of the Sample Preparation technicians on routine prep samples, handling and processingConduct monthly crew talk to discuss safety and quality issues with the staffOrganizes employee shift work in consultation with the Prep Superviso rHelps with employee performance evaluations, discipline and other issues as they arise in consultation with the ManagerAssist in keeping staff training records and controlled documents up-to-dateUpdate and generate prep QC data chartsPerforms basic mechanical maintenance as requiredUse correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical qualityObserve established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and proceduresOther duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExperience in managing and training staffHands-on experience with laboratory computer systemsBasic Mechanical aptitudeOrganized and highly motivated individual;Detail oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality and safetyAbility to work independently and/or as part of a teamAbility to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issuesStrong interpersonal skills along with the ability to exercise diplomacy and tactExcellent English communication skills both written and verbalExcellent computer skills including LIMS, Webview , MS Word, Excel and Outlook.Required QualificationsMinimum 3 years work experience in a commercial minerals laboratory or minerals sample preparation required ;Degree or diploma in mineral/geology/chemistry an assetForklift license/certification, or experience driving a forklift an asset.Physical DemandsAbility to sit and/or stand for long periods of timeAbility to work in a hot and dusty environmentManual dexterity to perform repetitive tasksAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.
