Job summary

The New York City Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented Research Assistant to support the IT Fiscal Affairs team. The position focuses on analyzing data, drafting policies, and monitoring procurements to support expense and capital funding portfolios.

Qualified applicants will have a degree and experience in data gathering, organization, and reporting. The role offers exposure to a large municipal budget and diverse operations within NYPD.

Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and six months of satisfactory full-time experience in research which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and report writing; or
  • An associate degree from an accredited college, or completion of 60 semester credits at an accredited college, and two years and six months of satisfactory full-time experience in research which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and report writing; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years and six months of satisfactory full-time experience in research which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and report writing; or
  • Education and experience equivalent to 1, 2, or 3 above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience. Completion of nine credits, at the college or graduate school level, in statistics, quantitative methods, mathematics, or research can be substituted for six months of the required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least six months of required experience or the nine specialized credits.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze historical and current data relating to vendor invoice payment timetables and adherence to PPB rules.
  • Draft, review, and update the bureaus policies and procedures regarding the processing of invoices and receiving report execution.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure policies are clear. comprehensive. and aligned with financial oversight guidelines.
  • Monitor active procurements and assist with data driven tracking and auditing of in-flight payments
  • Provide guidance and support to employees regarding policy interpretation and implementation.
  • Using data collected from FMS and Passport. assist in the development, maintenance and general budget hygiene of the bureaus expense and capital funding portfolios.

The Fiscal Affairs Division (FAD) is seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized, and analytical Research Assistant to support the IT Fiscal Affairs team. The Information Technology Bureau, Fiscal Affairs Division, administers and manages the $250M Expense, $400M Capital, and Grant budget portfolio to fund day-to-day operations and key strategic technology investments at the NYPD.

The Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
